SpringTime Theme With Glass Effects

Themer Eric has put together this striking SpringTime theme, complete with S60 Touch icons and a fancy glass effect in the highlight. Unfortunately, it’s clear that this is not made specifically for the E71, as you can see the homescreen icons are not perfect. Nevertheless, the background is vibrant, and the S60 Touch icons are well done, so it’s a winner in my book!

Mocha From Larsson Looks Good

Yet another awesome theme with those fancy S60 Touch icons, we’ve got Mocha from Larsson. If you’ve had other Eseries smartphones, you’ll likely recognize the Mocha background. It’s definitely pleasant, and should look awesome on the Nokia E71 white, for sure. There are 2 versions of this theme, one with those fugly default icons the E71 was cursed with, and one with those beautiful S60 Touch icons that came along later.

Make Your Nokia E71 Look Like The N86

Themes are one of the great ways you can customize the look of your Nokia E71, often giving it a whole new life. As you know, I can’t stand the fugly grey icons that come with the E71, and thus I usually focus on themes that allow me to replace those ugly icons with the great looking ones from the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, also called S60 Touch icons.

One new themer who’s doing great stuff, specifically for the Nokia E71, which he also carries, is Tehk7. He’s recently released 3 new themes for the Nokia E71, all with these great S60 Touch icons! First up is N86, using that classy blue background and your choice of orange (Solace) or green (Vista) highlights.

N86 Solace

Tehk7 also put together two others, called Touch:

And Light:

What’s so great about Tehk’s themes is that he’s really mastered the small things about the E71, such as the highlights on the Active Standby, as well as the Messaging icons from Nokia Messaging.

New Camo Theme For E71 From NaHiD

If you don’t know already, my friend Ricky, at Symbian-Guru, is pretty much obsessed with camo. He desperately wants Nokia to build him a camo phone, and has even painted his N800 Internet Tablet camoflaged. Thus, it comes as no surprise to see that he made a special request to NaHiD for a camo theme, one using those slick new S60v5 Touch icons.

NaHiD obliged, creating what looks like a pretty phenomenal camo theme, and it looks great on all S60-powered smartphones. I loaded it up on my E71, and I have to say, it’s impressive the level of detail that NaHiD goes to. Most of my 3rd party apps got new icons, and all the system folders were themed, as well.

New Touch Icons From Flahorn And A Theme From NaHiD

It’s no secret that I can’t stand the grey icons that the E71 was given from Nokia. They’re ugly, old-looking, and should be banished as soon as possible. I’ve highlighted several themes that use an icon pack from Flahorn that gives your E71 the look of a regular S60 phone, and now, Flahorn’s at it again with another killer icon pack. These new icons are being taken from the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and they look really close to the new Ovi icons.

While that’s already some good news, the great news is that other themers are already using these sweet new icons in their themes. NaHiD is the first such themer that I’m aware of, with his new Colorfull theme, just released today! I’ve got it loaded up on my Nokia E71, and as you can see, the icons look great! Unfortunately, the background is a bit too loud, and the Active Standby text blends in too much, but it’s exciting to see these new icons being used already, and I can only hope to see more in the future.

Alpha From DhanuSaud ROCKS The E71

Dotsisx over at Symbian-Guru has started a new weekly focus, spotlighting a themer from the S60 community each Friday. This past Friday was one I hadn’t heard of, DhanuSaud. I really like him cause he uses Flahorn’s icon pack, which you may remember I go ga-ga over for my E71. DhanuSaud also uses SVG backgrounds, so that they look great no matter what size or orientation your phone’s display is in – this also means they’ll work great on the Nokia E71!

His best one, in my opinion, is called Alpha, and he’s just updated it to fix a few text input fields that weren’t working quite right. I’ve got the version with Flahorn icons loaded up on my E71, and as you can see, it even addresses those pesky GPS and Media folders! Brilliant!

You can download Alpha v1.1 for FP1 devices here (both default and Flahorn icon packs are included).

Lithium By PiZero Looks Great On E71

There’s no better way to start the week than with a fresh new theme for your phone, and today is no exception. I’ve come across Lithium, from PiZero, who has recently started using Flahorn’s icon pack in his themes! Lithium is a blue-tinted theme that looks somewhat like the Matrix screens.

Unfortunately, Lithium doesn’t replace all of the system folders on the E71, such as the GPS, Communication, and Office folders, as well as the Download! app. Other than that, the theme looks great, and nearly completely rids us once again of those horrific default icons.

You can download Lithium for free from PiZero’s great looking new site here.

Feature: Flahorn Icon Themes For E71

Great apologies for the lack of posting. I’ve spent the last several days poring through various forums around the interwebs, desperately seeking themes for the E71 that use the Flahorn Icon Pack, which looks really close to the older S60v3 default icons, instead of these ugly grey things.

I spent the better part of a week installing and uninstalling themes from the Nokia E71, to bring you only themes that I’ve tested and approved. Without further ado, here are 6 themes for your E71 using Flahorn’s AWESOME icon pack.

First up, from ICEman, is basically the default Eseries theme, only with Flahorn Icons. This is the most complete one, as even the GPS and Office folders are changed.

Another great one is called Symbian OS 9x by k1slenko. Unfortunately, the GPS and Office icons (as will be the case with the remainder of the themes) are not changed. However, if you delete these, and recreate them manually, you’ll be rid of those ugly things once and for all!

Next up is the default S60v3 FP2 theme, with the updated icons. This one is straight from P@sco, a great themer who also blogs at jaspp.net.

Another classy theme is called ‘ilikediswayFP1′ by Dhanu. This one looks really good on the E71, particularly.

Mauikek B is another theme directly from Flahorn himself. The icons are colored, but designed the same as the others, and it looks really good on the Nokia E71’s display.

The last theme I found with the excellent Flahorn icon pack is called Calm, by Ahmed.

I also found the Haze by Bandez theme, which looks like the theme shown off in the S60 Touch previews on S60.com. The icons on this look great, too.

In case you’re wondering about my menu setup, I used this awesome walkthrough/setup from Symbian-Guru, which works really well and has everything in a logical place.

Three Themes For The E71

Vaibhav at The Symbian Blog has put together a list of three themes which fit well on the Nokia E71. Noting that a great theme can make or break the handset’s overall appeal. Vaibhav went to task to find the best themes to fit with his grey steel E71.

All three use custom icon sets that actually serve to somewhat hide the terribly ugly new default icons on the E71. Since the rest of the icons in each theme are dark in color, and somewhat drab, they fit nicely, which is rather nice to see. The three themes are below:

Theme Up Your E71

With the Nokia E71’s 2.4″ QVGA display set in landscape mode, it’s important to find themes that look good. The funky new icons that are the default on the E71 make this a daunting task, since they don’t necessarily match with every theme. Not to worry, I took the afternoon off to go theme hunting for those lucky few who already have their devices.

I picked out four themes that I think you’ll like, and that should look awesome on the E71’s landscape display. I tested the themes on the E66, and confirm that the look good. Without further ado, here’s the themes:

The first is Abstract6, from Phil The WebSurfer. You can check out his whole collection here.

Next up is a personal favorite, called Mask, and again from our friend Phil The WebSurfer. *Note that to install Mask, you’ll need to set your phone’s clock back to anytime in 2007. Once the theme is installed you can set your clock back to the correct date.*

Another blue theme, Blue Oil by Taieb. You can check out his other themes at TaiebThemes.com, as well.

Last but certainly not least is one that I found over at Symbian-Guru.com, called Relax by a themer named Travis.
