Nokia released a new firmware for the Euro E71s today, v210.21.006 today. The new firmware has been confirmed for most Euro product codes, though it is not quite available for the NAM units. If history has anything to show, those of us with the E71 NAM should be able to get this new firmware in a few days, though.

There is currently no changelog for this new firmware, so we’re not quite sure exactly what’s changed, but keep in mind, the Nokia E71 does *not* have UDP (User Data Preservation), which means that all of your personal information and settings will be hosed when you do the update. You can use the built-in facilities to make a backup of your information, which is stored on your memory card, but I definitely recommend making a PIM backup with Microsoft Outlook or something, and then manually re-installing each of your applications. It’s a pain, but it’ll work out better in the end.

You’ll need to download Nokia Software Updater to download and apply the new firmware.

For all you who are incredibly frustrated that your E71 NAM (product code 0569371) hasn’t been given the latest v200 firmware update, I have great news – You can now update through NSU! This doesn’t require you to change your product code (though I still say that’s probably the best bet, just to be ready for next time), either! I got the tip here.

Please note a few things about this new firmware:

1. It is not ‘hackable’, which means that you cannot install unsigned applications after updating your firmware.

2. The E71 does not have UDP (User Data Preservation), which means that you *will* lose any personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory, including applications, settings, contacts, etc. You should back this up, either using PC Suite and Microsoft Outlook, or the built-in Backup function on your E71.

E71 Grey Steel

I’ve recently received confirmation that a new firmware is available for the Nokia E71 Euro, v200.21.118. This new firmware update is available through Nokia’s Software Update application (shouldn’t it be called Nokia Firmware Update?) for the European variant of the E71. NAM users are stuck on the old firmware for the time being.

I’m still working to get a changelog, and will update this post as soon as possible. I have checked with my E71 NAM, and can confirm that it’s not available for North American users quite yet. Also, remember that the E71 has not been gifted with UDP (User Data Preservation) yet, so you’ll want to backup all information from your phone before applying the update.

The Euro version of the Nokia E71 recieved a firmware update a few weeks ago, bringing the device up to v110.07.127, but at that time, the NAM version, with US 3G, was left out in the cold. I’m pleased to let you know, however, that the E71-2 NAM has now received this firmware update, through Nokia’s Software Updater application.

The new firmware is the same version that the Euro one received, which also tells us that the changelog is going to be the same. There are new versions of Nokia Email, Nokia Maps, and Mail 4 Exchange, as well as a few bugfixes here and there.

It should be noted that this new firmware eliminates the ability for you to ‘hack’ your phone, using the process we described earlier here at E71Blog.com. If you’re using MagicKey, you may want to hold off for a bit, or look into Smartphoneware’s Tracker application. Also, the Nokia E71 does *not* have UDP (User Data Preservation), so it’s suggested that you backup any important information before applying the update.

There is a new firmware version available for the Nokia E71, v110.07.127. This update includes a newer version of Mail for Exchange, as well as an update to Nokia Maps. The camera has received some attention, and the browser and Bluetooth should be more stable, as well.
