Nokia released a new firmware for the Euro E71s today, v210.21.006 today. The new firmware has been confirmed for most Euro product codes, though it is not quite available for the NAM units. If history has anything to show, those of us with the E71 NAM should be able to get this new firmware in a few days, though.
There is currently no changelog for this new firmware, so we’re not quite sure exactly what’s changed, but keep in mind, the Nokia E71 does *not* have UDP (User Data Preservation), which means that all of your personal information and settings will be hosed when you do the update. You can use the built-in facilities to make a backup of your information, which is stored on your memory card, but I definitely recommend making a PIM backup with Microsoft Outlook or something, and then manually re-installing each of your applications. It’s a pain, but it’ll work out better in the end.
You’ll need to download Nokia Software Updater to download and apply the new firmware.

Just installed this firmware. Did a bacup of contacts, messages, notes and calendar and it restored everything but calendar. First flaw. Then I checked for any changes. The only thing I noticed is the removal of nasty puprple tint in camera. But at further inspection i noticed that the whole image except the center of the screen is now in green tint! way to go Nokia
Works in India. Downloaded and updated last night. Cannot see any obvious changes. So may be a bugfix.
I updated my E71 yesterday.
The best thing to do before an update is to go start Tools/Memory and then Options/Back_up_phone_memory. This will take some minutes, but you will save the most of you important stuff into the memory card.
In the update process I have lost some important tools, which I had to install again (Nimbuzz, S60SpotOn, Gmail, Opera Mini, Mobitubia, Snaptu).
The update brought better images, no more “purple nightmare”, no green tint, much nicer colors!
I didn’t notice any other change at the moment…
Cheers!
… I have to update my previous post: a bit of green is there in indoor pictures, but does not desturb me at all..
If you use Nokia Content Copier (included in PC Suite) to create a backup before applying the firmware update, the settings, messages and all data is restored fine. The applications that were on the memory card are reinstalled after the update (if they can be reinstalled, e.g. no certification expired and unsigned apps).
Note that you DON’T need to backup the files on the memory card as well.
Ik have updated mijn firmware to the new edition (210.21.006) on my black (black steel) E71 with productcode 0577051. i get the following problems: Keypad has become Azerty instead of Qwerty (Netherlands); Home-key isn’t working anymore, long neither a short click. I changed my productcode to 0567042 (EURO A BENELUX NL GREY STEEL), because after this the phone is working again. I wait for the next firmware update and maybe the error are fixed and put my productcode back to original 0577051.
Can someone test ping times on the 210 firmware?
I have the 200. firmware, and latency/jitter over wifi sucks for VoIP:
Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 20, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 27ms, Maximum = 110ms, Average = 63ms
To get decent voice quality with this much jitter requires large jitter buffers (>100ms) , which makes for annoying latency (around 300ms on internet VoIP calls).
Here’s the results for pinging a laptop on the same wifi AP:
Packets: Sent = 33, Received = 33, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 2ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 2ms
Both the laptop and the phone were within 15m of the AP, and were the only wifi-connected devices when I did the test.
hi i just want to know if the euro verison for e71 will it work for usa model e71? i have 100.07.76 right now when is the new model coming out for usa model the product code i have is 0570247
Figured out the answer to my own question:
tools->settings->connection->wireless LAN
options – advanced settings
turn power saving off
Ping times then are reasonable (<5ms)
Is there any real reason to update the firmware. I just got my E71 and do not see any purple in the pics (as stated above). Seems like a hassle and risk to update firmware when I am very happy with the phone.
On the Nokia Website, it says that there is a new Firmware update for the E71: 300.21.012
I also entered in a new code and even gave me a Firmware update starting with 400.xx.xxx
Anybody have any input?
