Nokia Maps v3.0 is now fully supported on the Nokia E71, which is stinking awesome! Aside from the cosmetic changes, this new version (which is, officially, still in beta), allows you to synchronize landmarks and routes from your online Ovi account! That means you can add your landmarks, create routes, etc, from a convenient web site, and then simply synchronise those back to your phone. That also means that, since our E71s don’t have UDP (User Data Preservation), after a firmware update, you simply have to re-synchronize your landmarks from the web to have them all back on your phone. This is definitely handy if you store lots of personal landmarks to use in Nokia Maps.
The official way to get the new version is to use the Nokia Map Updater, which you can download here. Unfortunately, it only works on Windows PCs, and for some silly reason, Nokia is hesitant to give out the regular .sis file, so Linux or Mac OS X users are left in the cold. However, a well-timed search of my computer’s Temp folder yielded the .sis file, which I’ve uploaded here, for you. (Update, that link is for Feature Pack 2 devices. The file for E71 users is here.)
Simply install the .sis file, and then go to your phone’s memory card and delete the ‘Cities’ folder, as well as the ‘.qf’ file that’s in the root of your memory card. Now reboot your phone, and wa-la! You’re rocking and rolling with the new version on your Nokia E71! The next thing that Nokia needs to do is improve its search function, and add the ability for me to share/send my location to my friends.

Nice work, can’t wait to try it.
I just tried it…downloaded Nokia Map Updater and did it the ‘official’ way.
However after starting up and while trying to get a GPS fix:
1. The first time the app crashed
2. The second time the phone restarted
Help!
Nokia E71-1 (27)
RM-346
Firmware 200.21.118
Darn, even after rebooting the phone the application is giving me the “not enough memory” error when I fire it up.. I don’t have any other applications running, so I’m confused.
Beta hiccups?
Fogot to mention that I’m using Nokia E71 with the latest FW.
I had the same “memory” problem. After installation delete the qf file and the “Cities” folder and restart.
I’m struggling to make it connect via Wi-Fi. On startup, it asks “Go online now?”, to which I answer Yes.
Then it says “No internet connection. Select ‘Options’ > ‘Tools’ > ‘Go online’ to go online.
If I choose “Go online”, I get the same message (“No internet conn…”).
Should it work with Wi-Fi connections?

It won’t let me install your file – my E71 thinks it’s a note and opens the note application.
Is Nokia_Maps_3.0_0302_3.1_u.sis the latest available version for FP1 devices?
I have the same crash issue. E71, latest FW.
Only sensible thing to do is to downgrade again…. it is BetaLabs for a reason ..
crash problem solution after installing by updater (exe, not sis file):
- delete qf file and cities folder of the memory card.
- reboot
It works for me.
My problem of “Not enough Memory” solved with KenethChile solution. Thanks Kenneth !

When I tried to install Nokia Map 3.0 on my E71x, I got an error: “Unable to install. Install base package first”. Could you tell me how I can have this base package.
Thanks.
I have:
1. Deleted the “cities” folder and “qf: file
2. Rebooted
However, when I try to run the Maps app., I still get “Out of memory” error.
I am running the latest firmware update 210.21.006.
Very, very frustrating. Please help!!!!!
… I meant “Not enough memory” error.
Install Nokia Maps v2.0 for 6650 Fold (another FP2 device) first and you can then update application to v3.0 Beta.
hey scoobyman, I’m trying to install it on my 6650 as well, but I’m getting the “Unable to install. Install base package first.” message. How do I fix this?
hi scoobyman, I am in the same situation with mrkz. I tried the 6650 as well, but I still get the “Unable to install. Install base package first.” message. What can I do? Thanks a lot.
Hi mrkz and Dat Nguyen,
I found the solution. You need to download the map of the 5700 express (Nokia_Maps_1.2_0702_s60_3.1.sis). Install it to you e71x phone (make sure you disable the online certificate check by going to Settings -> App. mgr -> Options -> Settings). Then download the Setup_Nokia_Maps_Updater_1.0.8.exe, install and run. It will automatically install and update your map to version 3.
Thanks! I was struggling to install the latest OVI maps. My problem was a flashing message asking me to switch on bluetooth. The map would keep flickering because of this. I then downloaded the map installer from this blog, installed, deleted CITIES & qf, restarted and lo and behold my problem was solved. Thanks a million and God Bless you!
I have one more problem which I hope you can help with. Everytime I reboot E71 , I get the message “Unable to install application. Try through app manager”. This is quite annoying. Please help!
When I tried to install Nokia OVI Map 3.0 on my 5700XM, I got an error: “Unable to install. Install base package first”.
Could you tell me how I can have this base package.
Thanks
