I can’t believe I missed this, but it looks like it’s been confirmed that the Nokia E71x from AT&T will have S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, as opposed to Feature Pack 1, like the unbranded unit has! Updates in Feature Pack 2 include a redesigned Active Standby screen, access point grouping and prioritization (think native SmartConnect!!), and an improved Device Manager view.
Symbian-Guru got the scoop, with 2 screenshots showing the new Active Standby and the Device Manager view. You can clearly see that the phone registers as the E71x, which is pretty cool.
There’s no word on what this really means to the unbranded users. Feature Pack 2 is really nice, and brings a few needed features, but is it worth branding your unbranded device? On that note, *could* you even do this, simply by changing the product code? It’s unclear at this point if the guts of the E71x are the same as the E71-2 NAM, but I’ll be digging a little deeper for you soon.

Interesting! I’m hoping the E71x does have the same technical specifications as the E71…
May i ask why your E71 looks like that? you got your watch down by the camera and all the shortcut ikons from side to side? Is it the new FW? or is that some kind of setting that you can make?
me thinks those pictures where taking from HOFO.
I have AT&T anyways for my E71-2

Hrm… and I just bought a E71-2 grey for use with AT&T (although I’m mid contract now…) One thing FP2 has that I really want are the timed profiles… Definitely need to find out how different the guts are and if it’s worth changing the product code!
I would like to know if the e71-2 has the same hardware as the e71x. The e71x has a lot of software problems, and at&t block you from using nokia maps so that you will have to pay for there gps services. In addition they want you to pay for a $30 a month internet plan, although with my e71-2 I don’t have to. I currently own both phones, and when I switch back between the too the e71-2 offers a lot more features for free. The e71x blocks these features making me have to pay for other programs and services from at&t. I would really like to get the FP1 firmware on my nokia e71x. Does anyone know how to do this???
