Big news from the Nokia Beta Labs today, Nokia Chat has been updated and renamed – to Contacts on Ovi! It’s also available for S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 devices, which I’m sure some of us will be thankful, as soon as AT&T gives us the E71x. Contacts On Ovi is an XMPP/Jabber-based app that allows you to connect with your friends to chat, using your Nokia Account. You can also connect to other Jabber services, such as Gtalk, by simply adding the contact (username@gtalk.com).
If you’re both using the S60 client, you can send your location to your friend, which can then be shown on Nokia Maps, allowing them to navigate to you easily. The newer version, on some phones, will also update your status with the currently playing track, if you’re using the default S60 music player, which is somewhat of a cool feature.
If you already had Nokia Chat installed on your E71, you’ll need to uninstall it before you can install this new version, which you can download here.
