One of the things that I wish about my E71 is that the volume keys could pull double-duty to scroll in the web browser. It would make browsing long webpages so much better! Well, I’m glad to let you know that, since we’ve learned how to install unsigned applications, this is now possible! Indeed, using an application called MagicKey, you can remap any button on your E71 (and other S60 phones) to behave like another button. Note that MagicKey can only duplicate buttons, it cannot remap a button to a new application.
You can download MagicKey here, and unfortunately, it doesn’t work with OpenSigned, so you’ll need to have performed the hack (detailed here) to be able to install it.
Once you’ve installed MagicKey, simply open the application. The first screen that you’re presented with is the App List. From this screen, you can either add a keymap to the ‘All Apps’ list, or you can specify a certain application, such as the web browser. To add, press Options, Add, and then scroll through the list to find the Web application. You should now see this screen:
Now, press ‘right’ on the d-pad to swap to the KeyMap List tab. This is where you’ll create a set of keymaps, and assign that set to the Web app that you just setup. Again, press Options, Add to create a new one, and you can name it whatever you like – I used ‘Webkeymap’. Now, click on your newly created Keymap, and then click ‘Add Key Pair’.
This is where it gets tricky, so pay attention. You should see a box asking for the original key. First, you need to press the ‘Send’ key, which will add ‘999′ to the box. Now you can click on whatever button you want to remap. To remap the volume keys to scroll, you need to press the Send key, followed by the volume up key. You should see ‘162′ in the box. Press OK, and you get another box asking for the Maps To: key. Again, press the Send button first, followed, this time, by the d-pad ‘up’, to get ‘16′ in the box. Now press OK.
Repeat the process again, this time with the volume down and d-pad down keys. If you really want to have the best experience, I recommend also mapping the voice memo button to the center d-pad, so you can scroll and click, all from the side there. To do this, follow the steps above, but press the voice memo/center d-pad buttons.
Once you’ve created your KeyMaps, your screen should look like the one below. If it doesn’t, erase them and do it again, making sure that you’ve got them in the right order. Now, click ‘back’ (right softkey) to get back to the first screen. With the ‘Web’ app highlighted, press options, and go to ‘Choose Map’. Pick your newly created ‘Webkeymap’. Now, again, click ‘Options, but this time, choose ‘Start on boot.’ This way, everytime you turn your phone on, the keymap will be reloaded.
That’s it! Now, you can easily open your web browser and scroll up and down using the volume keys on the side, and click on links using the voice memo key! How much better is that, and what’s more, your volume keys revert to their original function when you exit the web! It’s brilliant!

it doesn’t work on my E71 :/ I haven’t upgraded the firmware and did just what you instructed. The keys don’t seem to remap.
I did think of one useful application for this app though. In the camera application you could assign the mute button to the shutter release and the volume buttons to zoom. And maybe the center button to that dreaded ‘t’ key.
I first thought the app didn’t work, but I realised it just needed a reboot everytime I made the slightest change to the keymaps. (my phone is the E71)
One nice keymap would be to use the Arrow Right button in the Camera to focus instead of the ‘t’ key. You could also assign zoom functions to the volume keys.
Btw, too bad I can’t find Opera Mini from the list of keymap-able applications… :/ I wonder why that is? Every other application, be it on the internal memory or the card, is visible. Really weird.
Wonderful app.. the volume keys come to life!.. I remaped to make zoom and my location in googlemaps, in camera to make zoom and shutter..and many other programs…thanks a lot.
I tried to install this after the hack, and i still got “certificate error”.

i have N82 & i’m using my Gallery key (above the cam ) as play button s i can open Music player any where & to puse & play my songs any where without switching to the player , Here is the Key map : Orig. key 230 ,,Maps to 182 ,,

Any clue how to custo Opera Mini? It doesn’t show up in the list of apps in MagicKey.
Better than up- and down-key for volume up/down is “page up” and “page down”.
You’ll find it, when you press the plus key (+) and press ok. Then a list will be open with all special keys.
But my problem is, how can I define the plus-key? Which number has it on E71? Because it only works together with the fn-key and I can’t define it.

Magickey is a very useful app.. i had used it on my E65 to remap the useless mute key…. I agree with one of the posts above that Opera Mini doesnt appear in the list… How odd..
Does not work for me either. The keymaps define OK, I can associate Web with “Web Keymap” but then nothing happens. The funny thing is that even though “Options->Start on boot” is selected, the app does NOT start on boot. Tried modifying the default keymap, still nothing. I am giving up, using the volume keys for scrolling is not particularly convenient anyway (yeah, and those grapes are sour too

Can some body help me. I still keep getting certification error when I try to open mgickey appliction. I followed the Hack procedure and instlled all the files. Also when I try to open my Xplore application I cannot see the Bin folder under c\sys\bin
If you have updated your firmware to the latest (v200) then the hack will not work, unfortunately.

I have successfully installed magic key on my 5800. However, I get a memory full error when I start it up. I tried close all the application except the home screen. The error remains. Does anyone has any clues on it? I am frustrated. I want to play games on my 5800

I use Nokia E71 with the latest firmware. the magickey has been installed successfully, but keep crashing every time i add a new app on the first screen.. anybody experiencing this?

yes apparently the Magic key does not function if u have upgraded ur phones firmware… my e66 does not work n im pretty damm sure that even on e71 it will not work !!!
